We have had so much fun learning all about Minibeasts for our final Nursery class topic. Over the last few weeks we have been learning about how we can respect and care for the natural environment and all living things.

We designed our own Minibeast Hotel and thought about the type of habitat the minibeasts would like. We made a list of materials we would need and lots of us collected these on our walk to school.

We made our Minibeast Hotel together in the courtyard and designed some signs for the Minibeasts so that they would feel welcome to stay!

We have enjoyed regularly exploring and observing the hotel to see which Minibeasts  have come to stay. So far we have seen snails, worms, slugs, ants and beetles!

In class, we have also enjoyed caring for our own caterpillars. We kept our own Butterfly Kit in class and watched the life cycle of a butterfly over three weeks! It has been so exciting watching this process, seeing the baby caterpillars get bigger, then making the cocoons and finally emerging as butterflies. After the butterflies had emerged, we gave them sugar water because they were very hungry. We then set them free and released them outdoors!

It was very nice of you to make a mini beast hotel Nursery! Keep on building mini beast hotels for bugs. You could build a mini beast hotel for Butterflies, Ants, Slugs, Snails, and many other minibeasts. It is very good for the environment. Well done Nursery!
