In Year 1 we have been busy creating our own moving story books! We linked our English learning to DT by retelling the stories, Humpty Dumpty, Alice in Wonderland, Incy Wincy Spider and The Three Little Pigs. We began by learning all about levers and sliders. We experimented and played with mechanisms to see how they worked.

First we began the design section – we drew our background and decided on our characters. We also decided if we were going to use sliders or levers. Next, we drew our backgrounds and stuck our paper onto stiff card. We then drew and cut out our characters.

We constructed our book by sticking the characters onto the sliders and levers. We then cut some slits into the paper and started assembling. We tested it out and adjusted our book as we went along. After we had assembled our story book we made a front cover and added the finishing touches.

We are so proud of our story books and have been reading, playing and retelling the stories ever since. They look wonderful! Well done!
