Today, Ash Wednesday, we welcomed Katie from the Catholic Children’s Society, also known as CCS, to our school. This is the charity we traditionally support during Lent. Katie led a special whole school assembly to launch the CCS Lenten Appeal.

This year’s appeal is inspired by Pope Francis’s call to support everyone’s mental health by building a ‘culture of community’. Every penny raised through this appeal will support the CCCS work with local disadvantaged children and families.

The CCS counsellors and therapists have developed resources and activities to help promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in schools. Katie reminded us of the Five Ways to Wellbeing, which we regularly consider in school and she told us all the different ways the CCS helps local families.

Every child was then given a special collection box to take home and fill with loose change. If you have given up anything for Lent you could put the money  that you save in  the box. Or you could donate your pocket money? Remember, Lent is a time to pray more, give up something (negative habits, not juts food we enjoy!) and it is a time to give to others.

This Lent we will try to give to the CCS and build a culture of community.
