This week in Writing, we explored mark making through colours and emotions, linking our learning to our Book of the Week, The Colour Monster.

The children thought about how different experiences throughout our day can make us feel different emotions, and how our feelings can change quickly.

Just like in The Colour Monster, we used different colours to represent different feelings:

💙 Blue – Sad
💚 Green – Happy
💛 Yellow – Worried
❤️ Red – Angry

We talked about how even small things can affect how we feel. For example, we might feel sad when we say goodbye to our parents in the morning, but then feel happy when we see our friends at school. We discussed how it is completely normal for our feelings to change throughout the day.

The children then chose colours to represent different emotions and shared things that make them feel happy, sad, worried or angry. They used their chosen colours to create marks and patterns, helping us to connect our feelings, experiences and early writing skills.

It was wonderful to hear the children talking so openly about their emotions and recognising that all feelings are okay.
