Last week Year 1 started looking at our Design and Technology topic for this term- creating a windmill for a little mouse to live in. We created our design criteria, and discussed that our windmill must be able to move, must be able to fit a mouse, and must have an axle, turbine and structure.

Yesterday we created our fabulous windmills! First we decorated them, and then we cut and folded the net of the structure into shape. This was glued onto the “grass” before creating the turbine and axle. We did this by making careful holes in our paper, cutting in certain lines and then using a pipe cleaner to allow our windmill to spin. We followed careful instructions and made sure it was all done in the right order. Next week we will be evaluating our products see how we did against our design criteria.

Have a look at some of our amazing windmills!
