This week was Enterprise Week at St Vincent’s! Year 1 became young entrepreneurs as they set up their very own company, designed a product and worked together to make and sell it to the other classes!
We began on Monday by thinking of a name for our company and designing a logo and catchy slogan. Our product this year was monster pencil toppers, and after lots of creative thinking, our company became known as Terrifying Monster Friends, with the fantastic slogan, ‘A monster friend for every pen!’ The children had great fun sharing their ideas and designing their very own monster friends.
We also linked Enterprise Week to our Maths learning as we explored money! The children enjoyed handling toy coins and notes, recognising their different values and matching amounts of money to the correct coins and notes. They then put their knowledge to the test by writing down the values of different coins and cutting and sticking notes to match them to their values. We are becoming very confident at recognising money!
On Wednesday, we were delighted to welcome Raphael and Elliot’s mum, who came to tell us all about her fascinating job in cybersecurity! She explained how she helps to keep people safe online and the important work she does to protect others. The children were fascinated to learn about her role and were very inspired by our very own cybersecurity wizard! A huge thank you for taking the time to visit us and share your experiences. We also showed off our advert posters in assembly and explained what our product was to encourage as many children as possible to buy our product.
Thursday was a particularly exciting day as it was finally time to bring our monster friends to life! The children worked incredibly hard to draw and cut out feet for their monsters, stick colourful pom-poms together, add googly eyes and finish them off with wonderful pipe cleaner antennae! There was lots of creativity, teamwork and laughter as our little production line got to work. We were very busy making sure all our orders were ready, and on Friday, our Terrifying Monster Friends were finally delivered to their new owners around the school!
As always, Enterprise week was a fantastic week of creativity, problem solving, teamwork and learning! The children should be so proud of everything they have achieved, from their very first designs to their finished products.
Well done, Year 1! You have been brilliant little entrepreneurs, and I am so proud of you all!
