What a wonderful week we have had in Reception for Enterprise Week! We have been learning about money, exploring different jobs and creating our very own product, the Mighty Monster Bookmarks.
Monday – Money and advertising
We began with a PSHE lesson about the difference between needs and wants. Using the story of Mollie the Cat and a shopping drama, we discussed the choices we make when shopping. We also explored different adverts, thinking about what makes them exciting and memorable. In Maths, we started recognising and sorting coins, noticing the differences between pounds and pennies.
Tuesday – Creating our advert
We worked together to create an advert for our Mighty Monster Bookmarks! Our story featured Miss Tilly needing to save her page while reading, and our bookmarks came to the rescue. We even created a catchy song to finish our advert!
Wednesday – Exploring different jobs
We welcomed four wonderful parents into our classroom. Ana Maria, a dentist, taught us about healthy teeth; Caroline, a communications executive for an energy company, shared her role; Igor, an anthropologist, told us about learning about people and cultures; and Cecile, who works in cybersecurity, taught us about staying safe online. Thank you to everyone who came to share their knowledge!
We brought in our £3, ready to choose and order our favourite products after seeing what each year group had created at the whole-school assembly!
Thursday and Friday – Making and selling
On Thursday, we made our Mighty Monster Bookmarks and carefully packed all our orders. On Friday, we delivered our products around the school and collected the money. We then counted our coins and worked out our profit, putting our Maths learning into practice!
We are so proud of the children’s creativity, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the week. A big thank you to our parents for supporting our Enterprise Week!
