In the summer holiday, I was thrilled to be able to visit our German partner school again for the first time since before the pandemic.

Our partner school is called ‘Grundschule Bad Bentheim’ and it is the primary  school where my mother, my uncle and two of my aunts attended in the 1940s and 1950s! I try to spend a day there every year when I am visiting my family in Germany.

This is my partner teacher at the school, Frau Göhlfennen. Her father went to school with my mother!

Frau Göhlfennen invited me to meet Klasse 4d  who are going to be class 5’s partner class this year. I talked to the German children about London and St. Vincent’s. They showed off their impressive English skills and then we talked about the sort of activities they would like to share with Class 5.

We decided that the first thing we would do, would be to write letters in our own languages. That way, the children at thr German school have the chance to read  letters written in English and the the children at St. Vincent’s have the chance to read  letters written in German.

Class 5 have now written their letters and we are looking forward to receiving letters from Germany in return.

Here is the link to the German School’s website where you can see more photos of the school: https://www.gsbadbentheim.de/startseite.html

What would you like to share with the German school next?
