Today we went to Broadstairs Beach!

We were all so excited to go to Broadstairs again after our brilliant trip last year. We had to arrive at school nice and early at 7:45am, to be able to be ready to get on the coach by 8am. Most of us usually struggle to wake up for school, especially on a Monday, but not today! We travelled by coach to reach the beautiful beach and started things off by eating our delicious packed lunches on the grass (so the seagulls couldn’t steal our food) and then made our way down to the beach. Thankfully, the sun was shining but it wasn’tย asย hot as last year, which Miss Forster Adams was very pleased about.

We set up in our area and things started off quickly with a sandcastle competition. We sat patiently in our groups as our adults ran down to the beach to collect water to help with our building. A parent in our class was super helpful as he brought up a big bucket to help all of the groups. They collected shells, rocks, seaweed and even crabs legs to help us decorate our castles. After all of our hard work and amazing team work, Mrs Healy, Mrs O’Neill and Ms Drury came round to inspect and judge our castles. Then, it was time to head off down the beach to take part in a scavenger hunt. Again, we worked in teams to race across the beach to find different things. We had to try and find something yellow, a feather and even a leaf! Some of us were confused as to how we could find a leaf since there were no trees around. Nonetheless, we persevered and found lots of things and one five points per item.

After our hunt, we went back along the beach, through the seaweed to arrive back in our area. We then came together with Miss Carruthers to draw a map of Broadstairs. We first plotted ourselves on the map, then the sea in front of us and the cliffs behind us. We spotted other features such as a bandstand and a pier which we could include on our maps too. Once our maps were perfected, we went down to the sea to paddle. Miss Carruthers and Mrs Hope held a rope out so that we couldn’t go to far but we managed to jump over a few waves and had a great time, whilst managing to avoid gettingย tooย wet.

Our time at the beach was quickly coming to an end so we got together our things, put on our shoes and socks and sat under the canopy to wait for our ice creams and ice lollies… they were delicious!

Once we had finished off our ice creams, we travelled back up the stairs to get back on the coach. We had a very long journey ahead of us, especially with London traffic but lots of us chatted away with our friends and some of us even had a little doze! We had such an amazing day but we missed some of our friends that unfortunately could not join us on our class trip. We really hope that they feel better to be able to come and join us on the other trips that we have in store this week!

We would like to thank the SVPA for funding our trip, as well as thank Miss Carruthers for helping to organise everything. We feel very lucky to be able to go on such amazing trips.

What was your favourite part of our day?

I absolutely loved the seaside trip. My favourite part was paddling in the sea (although I did get wet in the sea). ๐Ÿ˜‚
I enjoyed the scavenger hunt, finding sand worm trails, walking on the slimy seaweed, collecting patterned pebbles and pointed shells. I also found a baby crab shell and it’s claws.

Thank you to my wonderful teachers, the SVPA and the bus driver. ๐Ÿ˜€

  14. Broad stairs was fun because we got to play games in the coach and we paddled in the sea, not to forget the sand castle competition.
Thank you teachers for doing that lovely activity.

My favourite part was the sand castle competition. At first we all got to choose our groups with at least two people. Lots of people had different ideas and it was hard to choose a design. The teachers decided the winner. My second favourite was paddling in the sea. Miss Hope held out a rope so we didn’t go too deep into the sea. Before that, we made our own map of Broadstairs
