Yesterday, we were very lucky to visit Regent’s Park with Harry from Marylebone Cricket Club for a brilliant morning of cricket.
We began with a fun warm-up game of noodle tag to get everyone moving and ready. After that, Harry introduced us to a game that was similar to scatterball. We were split into two teams, with one team batting and the other fielding. The batters had to hit four balls from cones, while the fielding team had to wait outside the square until the final ball had been struck. This meant that teamwork, communication and quick reactions were key.
This format gave us a great opportunity to practise both our batting and fielding skills. We quickly realised how important accurate throwing is, especially when trying to stop the other team from scoring. The scores were incredibly close, which made the games even more exciting!
In the afternoon, we returned to school for our PE lesson, where we continued developing our cricket skills. We began by learning about the role of the umpire and the different hand signals used to communicate scores and decisions. We then focused on our bowling technique, thinking carefully about our body position and range of movement.
Working with partners, we aimed to bowl accurately into a target square, before challenging ourselves further with a smaller cone target. It was fantastic to see everyone improving their control and precision.
A big thank you to Mr Aitken for organising such a wonderful experience, and to Harry from MCC for his expert coaching throughout the day.
What was your favourite part of the day, and what new skill did you learn?
