This week in Religious Education, we have been looking at some very special People of God, who are ancestors of Jesus mentioned in the Gospel of Matthew.

We began the week by learning about the story of Ruth, King David’s great grandmother, in the Bible. Ruth was a nomad and lived in God’s way by being loyal, faithful and caring to her family. Year 4 looked at some paintings of Ruth and Naomi, her mother in law, and thought about what they might say to each other.

Naomi wanted Ruth to return to her family after her husband had died, but Ruth decided to stay telling her ‘wherever you go I will go, your people shall be my people’. The class then answered some questions about Ruth’s actions and how this shows she lived in God’s way by making links to scripture.

Later in the week Year 4 learnt about King Solomon. King Solomon was a wise and holy man who was blessed by God. His father was King David and gave him some advice about how to be a good ruler. Solomon listened to David and asked God to help him look after others. This pleased God so God granted him his wish as he had been so selfless. King Solomon wrote over 300 proverbs-a saying to help us make better choices and over 1000 songs! We read some proverbs together from the Bible and thought about how we could apply this advice to our every day lives.

On Friday the children learnt all about St. Vincent de Paul before St. Vincent de Paul’s feast day on 27th September. We read about how St. Vincent welcomed children by following Jesus words to his disciples where he told them to love God’s children. St. Vincent de Paul Society has helped over 150,000 people during the pandemic by providing them with food, furniture or friendship. We thought about how we could help other and wrote prayers to God thanking him for helping us to look after the needy.

Some children read out their prayers during our Class Worship.

Well done Year 4 for your brilliant ideas and hard work!

How could you be more like St. Vincent de Paul and put other’s needs before your own?
