Today, Reception class enjoyed a fun filled visit to Willows Farm as our end-of-year ‘Big Trip’, bringing our learning about farms and animals to life through a range of exciting and hands on experiences.
Our day began with a visit to the duck pond, where we learned about the ducks that live at the farm. The children discovered that some ducks are flightless and learned about the different foods they eat. It was a wonderful opportunity to observe animals closely and watch them splash around and fish for bugs.
Next, we watched the Peter Rabbit show, joining in with singing and dancing along and enjoying seeing some of our favourite characters that we can also see at Willow’s Farm. We then visited the petting area, where the children gently held and stroked guinea pigs, showing great care and confidence around the animals.
One of the highlights of the morning was feeding the larger farm animals. The children enjoyed getting up close to cows, sheep, goats, horses and donkeys, learning more about the animals and even feeding them. They showed great curiosity and excitement throughout this experience and were even able to pet the animals.
After a well deserved lunch and a rest in the shade from the warm weather, we headed to the sheep racing arena. The children loved cheering on their favourite sheep and enthusiastically supporting their chosen teams. There was lots of excitement as we watched the race unfold!
Later, we visited the pig enclosure, where we observed the pigs relaxing in the sunshine and learned how they use mud to help keep themselves cool. The children were fascinated to discover how animals adapt to different weather conditions.
Another favourite part of the day was our tractor ride around the farm. As we travelled through the fields, we enjoyed seeing more of the farm and spotting animals along the way as well as driving through a gigantic muddy puddle.
To finish our visit, we had the opportunity to milk Daisy the (pretend!) cow. The children thoroughly enjoyed trying this for themselves and learning more about where milk comes from.
It was a wonderful day with lots of outdoor learning, exploration and fun. The children represented our school beautifully, showing kindness, curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the trip. We are so proud of them all!
Thank you to the SVPA for helping to fund our trip and to all of the wonderful parent volunteers who gave up their time to support us today. Your help made the day possible, and it is very much appreciated. Thank you!
