In Religious Education we have been learning about Baptism.

We know that when a baby is baptised they are welcomed into the family of God. We can name the signs and symbols of a baptism such as the oil, the white garment and the holy water. We can confidently write about the stages of a baptism, as well as talk about the significance of the baptismal candle. We learnt that the Priest says, ‘I baptise you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.’ He pours holy water over the baby’s head three times. At the end of a baptism everyone says the Our Father prayer.

We have participated in lots of different activities this topic- role play, painting, labelling, writing, drawing and we even made our own paper people when learning about belonging. We discussed scripture from Matthew 19:14 ‘ Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’

Today we discussed what the baptismal candle represents. We made a collage and spoke about how we can show the love and light of Jesus. We thought about how we can show kindness to ourselves and to each other.

Well done for your fantastic learning Year 1! I am extremely impressed with your hard work. You have produced brilliant work this topic and thank you for bringing in photos of your Baptism for our display!

Have a look at some photos of our learning!
