This week in Religious Education, we have continued exploring our topic, To the Ends of the Earth. Our core question for this unit is: How does the Holy Spirit transform people to live as followers of Jesus, especially through the Sacrament of Confirmation?
During our lessons, we have been developing our understanding of the Sacrament of Confirmation and the important role of the Holy Spirit within it. We explored the different signs, symbols and actions used during the rite of Confirmation, including the laying on of hands, anointing with the oil of chrism, the words “Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit” and the sign of peace. We learned that these gestures are not simply actions, but outward signs showing something deeper and invisible taking place through God’s grace.
To demonstrate our learning and understanding, we created detailed guides to the Sacrament of Confirmation using specialist religious vocabulary to explain the meaning behind each symbol and action. We made thoughtful links between Baptism and Confirmation, recognising how Confirmation strengthens Christians in their faith and discipleship.
In today’s lesson, we deepened our understanding of the Holy Spirit by exploring the symbols used to represent Him in the Bible. We discussed how the dove represents God’s presence and peace, wind represents the unseen power of the Spirit, and fire symbolises courage, energy and transformation. We linked these symbols to key moments in Scripture, including Pentecost and the Baptism of Jesus, and reflected on how Christians today continue to be guided by the Holy Spirit.
How do the signs and symbols of Confirmation help Christians understand the invisible work of the Holy Spirit?
I enjoyed this piece of work. I liked how we learnt about the sacraments of confirmation and what they do at confirmation. It looked really nice with the pictures as well.
This piece of work was so fun! I loved learning about the Sacrament of Confirmation and drawing pictures too! Thank you for teaching us!
It was very amazing since I got to display all my talent on here and I thought that this was very relaxing[as usual].
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This lesson was so good that I wanted to do it again! We explained the four different stages of Confirmation and what the bishop did to confirm a teenager and mark them an actual christian in life. The bishop renews our baptismal promises to make our life better as we follow Jesus in his footsteps.
I liked this piece of work as it was a mix of writing and drawing .I enjoyed working with my partner and taking notes on my whiteboard . Thank you Miss Forster Adams !!!!
I really enjoyed this peace of work.I think the lesson was very interesting and very useful to know. The drawings and the writing looked really nice.
I enjoyed this piece of work.
I enjoyed both these pieces of work but to me the Confirmation Guide was more interesting. This was because it was a new topic whereas we’ve already learnt about the Holy Spirit.
I really enjoyed the lesson . The drawings were really fun and I loved doing the writing. Wind is a symbol of the Holy Spirit and it helps Christians understand the invisible work of the Holy Spirit because during Pentecost the Holy Spirit came down in the form of wind leading to the miracle of the tongues of fire and that can help us realise how vital the Holy Spirit was.
