Last weekend, St Vincent’s took part in the London Mini Marathon, an event held in conjunction with the full marathon the following day. The course began at Horse guards Parade, passed by St James’s Park and Buckingham Palace before finishing on the same iconic finishing line as the Marathon on ‘the Mall’.
There were two routes: the one-mile course which we opened up to Years 3 and 4 and the 2.6km course which we opened up to Years 5 and 6. It was a beautiful, sunny day and it was the 2.6km event first so all of Years 5 and 6 met up near the starting line at 11:10am because our start time was 12:10pm. The 1-mile run for Years 3 and 4 was a little later in the afternoon with a start time of 2:50pm.
It was a wonderful experience with big crowds watching and cheering us on every step of the way and every single one of us completed the courses in excellent times. We all had a fantastic day and we each got to take home with us a Mini Marathon medal so we can remember our achievements for years to come!
A big thank you to all the adults who supported the event whether it was by watching and cheering the children on or running alongside the children! We hope to get the chance to do it again next year!
