This week we built on our understanding of ‘old and new.’ We looked at a range of photographs of old and new houses and learnt about what houses were like in the past. We talked about the features of different old and new houses and discussed the materials they were/are made from.

After developing our vocabulary and discussing our ideas together, we sorted old and new houses into two groups. We looked at different photographs of the outside and inside of houses and used the knowledge we had learnt to sort them into old and new.

After sorting the photographs, we were able to compare the similarities and differences between the old and new houses using key vocabulary.

Outdoors, we constructed our own old and new houses using the waffle blocks outdoors. We were able to talk about the features of the houses we made and use the vocabulary we had learnt to share our ideas with each other.

Some of us also enjoyed independently building our own houses inside using the stickle bricks and wooden blocks.
