This week we celebrated our love of reading at St. Vincent’s during World Book Day!

Year 3 visited Daunt Bookshop on Wednesday to choose a book to exchange for their World Book Day token. It was so much fun to look at all the different books such as Creepy Creators, Greg the Sausage Roll (Lunchbox Superhero) and Can You Get Jelly Fish in Space?

An author, Jodie Garnish, also visited us on Wednesday afternoon to tell us all about her career as a performer which has allowed her to shape the world of β€˜The Spectaculars,’ her series of children’s books. It was so inspiring to hear about how Jodie has used her love of performance to inspire her story telling.

Thursday was the main event and it was so exciting to find out this year’s theme for the teachers which was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.

The day began with an assembly where we had a parade to show off our wonderful costumes. In class we designed our own book covers for our favourite books, took part in a special BBC live lesson all about different types of genre and swapped classrooms with Year 4 for a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed lesson. In this lesson we designed our own sweet worthy of being made in Mr. Wonka’s factory, inspired by his creations in the inventing room. We read some of the story before creating our own sweet and writing him a persuasive letter to convince Willy Wonka to create it for us! In the afternoon, our brothers and sisters as well as our parents joined us for a special family reading time.

Thank you Miss Jones for organising such a brilliant World Book Day for us!
