This week, we celebrated World Week, a special time where we celebrate our diversity and feel proud of the city we live in. We had the chance to talk about our home countries and share these stories with our friends and families. It was wonderful to learn more about one another and appreciate the variety of cultures that make our school so unique.
We also enjoyed Spirituality Day, where we explored our house saints. We learned about where they came from, why they have had such an impact, and the countries that celebrate them. Working in our house teams, we discovered the saints’ associated colours and symbols, and wrote short fact-files about them. This linked beautifully to the biographies we’ve been writing in English, making our learning both fun and meaningful.
For our special celebration today, we shared what we were wearing to honour our home countries and joined the Cultural Day assembly. It was amazing to see so many brave performers! We enjoyed songs, special dances, poetry, and even martial arts. Seeing our friends perform with their friends and families made it feel like a true celebration of the culture within our school.
This afternoon, we reflected on why celebrating diversity is so important. We discussed how understanding the world around us helps us lift each other up. As God’s children, we know we are all brothers and sisters, and we are so fortunate to be part of His creation. Our Religious Education learning this half term has taught us about Jesus’ Greatest Commandment, loving our neighbour, and the Beatitude “Blessed are the peacemakers”. We connected this with our discussions today, sharing thoughtful and meaningful responses about why our communities are so important.
We feel so lucky to live in the diverse city of London, where we are all different, special, and unique. Celebrating our diversity reminds us that loving and understanding others is vital as we grow as the next generation.
