On Tuesday, Year 2 enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Puppet Theatre Barge to watch a captivating performance of Anansi and the Lost Sun.

The children were delighted to see the story brought to life through imaginative puppetry, colourful characters and engaging storytelling. It was a fantastic opportunity to experience a narrative in a different and exciting way!

This visit provided a lovely link to our Design and Technology learning in Year 1, when the children designed and created their own puppets. They were able to see how puppets can be used to bring characters to life, express emotions and tell stories.

The performance also supported our current English learning, where we have been developing our oracy and storytelling skills. Watching the characters interact helped the children explore how expression, dialogue and sequencing can be used to create an engaging narrative.

The excitement doesn’t stop there! After half term, we are looking forward to welcoming the Puppet Theatre Barge team into school for a special puppet-making workshop. The children will have the opportunity to get creative, develop their design skills and make their very own puppets, building on everything they have seen and learnt during the performance.

Year 2 had a fantastic time, and we can’t wait to continue our puppetry adventure after half term!
