Year 4 have been busy exploring the art of Roman mosaics! Inspired by the beautiful patterns and designs we have been studying in class, the children began by creating their own mosaics using paper before bringing their designs to life with ceramic cubes.
We learnt that the Romans used mosaics to decorate the floors and walls of their homes, public buildings and bathhouses. They often created intricate patterns, geometric designs and pictures of people, animals and scenes from everyday life. Mosaics were a wonderful way for the Romans to show their creativity and add colour and beauty to their surroundings.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the creative process, carefully selecting and arranging their ceramic cubes to create their own unique designs. They showed great patience, creativity and attention to detail throughout the activity and were absolutely delighted with their finished pieces.
Don’t they look fantastic? We are incredibly proud of their wonderful artwork and the effort they put into creating their very own Roman-inspired mosaics!
