What an absolutely brilliant day Year 3 has had on their trip to Broadstairs beach. The weather was very kind to us and we had sunshine the whole day! After an early start and a lovely coach ride to admire the countryside we arrived at the seaside and ate our lunch whilst fighting off hungry seagulls.

Lots of parents then joined us at the beach as we listened to some safety instructions from the local lifeguard. Once we had been told where the safe areas on the beach were both year 3 and year 4 completed a sandcastle competition. There were some VERY impressive entries but in the end Camila’s teams sandcastle and adjoining village won the year 3 group. Everyone enjoyed it, even Mrs Kidd and the parents joined in to help build.

Next, Ms Duffy took us to the adjoining beach – Louisa Bay to do a scavenger hunt. There was some excellent team work happening to find and collect everything on the list as well as interesting items found to earn extra points. Crab, clams, beautiful shells, kelp and dried coral were just some of the things we found. Some special items we kept, but anything that had an animal was placed back in the ocean to return to its habitat.

Once we returned to Broadstairs we completed a geographical fieldwork study identifying how many waves crashed in a 5 minute period. Ms Carruthers was our time keeper and we counted each wave that crashed every minute to add to the results table. Having already completed a prediction in class earlier this week, we are keen to get back to school tomorrow to find out if our predictions are close to the results.

Lastly, we got delicious ice creams from the local shop and got to enjoy them with our friends! Thanks so much to the S.V.P.A for funding the coach and our trip, thanks to the parents who came to help and staff for organising. It will be one of our favourite memories of year 3 for sure!
