To help us with our self-portraits in Art, we participated in a workshop at the October Gallery today. We began the workshop by looking at their works of Art within their gallery and deciding which ones we liked and why. The resident artist helped us to analyse a couple of examples and we discussed the importance of identity which features within the Art.

We then took turns to draw each other in perspective . It was important to begin with a large oval/circle first to get the dimensions of the head correct.

The portraits of each other were very good considering the children only had ten minutes each.

Once we had our portraits of each other, we could create another one, a futuristic version with cyborg features. Each of us were given suggestions for our designs and we could also apply the resources within the image. Now was the time to start getting creative!

Now that we had two portraits – one with cyborg features and one without – it was time to put them together into one image. We explored the different ways of doing that. There was only one rule and that was that the portraits must be touching each other somehow. Many fantastic works of Art came out as a result!

We had a lot of fun in the October Gallery. We learnt about painters and we were inspired by them. We drew a friend and added mechanics on their face! It was amazingly fun and I am looking forward for a new trip! Thank you Mr Aitken for organising this trip, I am very thankful 😃😃😃
