In History, Year 6 are enjoying their World War II topic.
We have been answering the question: Why were children across Britain evacuated from major towns and cities and what was evacuation like?
Today, we learned more about what evacuation was like for many children during the war by looking at primary sources of information including posters, letters, video footage and photographs. We looked at some real ration books and some replica identification cards. We also compared the Government issued packing list for evacuees with the packing list for our trip to Sayers Croft. Finally, we pretended we were evacuees and ‘packed’ our suitcases with both the essential items which we were required to bring as well as three luxury items which we had to provide reasons for choosing.
We are looking forward to meeting an real life evacuee soon and finding out more about her experiences. We are also preparing our Sayers Croft/World War II assembly ready for you all next Friday.
