We are going to continue our learning on decimals today and next week. Here is today’s task…

Writing Decimals and Ordering and Comparing

Let’s have a look at how to order and compare decimals…
We look at the ones or units first. Are there any numbers larger? In this case, yes there is a 3 and two 2’s. The 3 is the largest. Next on the numbers with ‘2’ in the one or units column we go to the tenths and see which number has the most tenths.
Now we can arrange our numbers smallest to largest which means we have ordered and compared them.
We always start by looking at the ones of units. Then we move onto the tenths and then the hundredths. This is because hundredths is the smallest of the 3. Remember hundredths means 1 has been split into 100 equal parts. Whereas a tenths means 1 has only been split into 10 equal parts!
