Good Morning Year 2!

Click here for a printable version of this blog post: Monday English printable

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and managed to have a rest after all your hard work last week. I can’t wait to catch up with you all on our Zoom call today πŸ™‚

I hope you’re all keeping up with your reading. Please remember to write on our Reading Diary Blog. If you want to make a poster book review about a book, then send it in and I will upload it to our blog.

Today we’re going to read the last two pages of our 50 Ways to Feel Happy extract. Scan the QR code below or click on the pdf version here:50 Ways to be Happy extract

How did you get on last week with your kindness challenge? This week we’re going to be spotting kindness in other people. That could be people that you live with, or strangers that you see when you are outside. Hopefully you’ll be able to see lots of kindness!

I would like to swap these two activities around πŸ™‚ Everyone is to do the book review of 50 Ways to Feel Happy, telling us what the book is about and reasons as to why you would (or wouldn’t) recommend it to someone else. Then, for an extension activity, try some of the activities from any pages from the book. Take photos of you doing them and send them in so that we can see everyone being kind!

Things to include in your book review:

  • The title and author of the book
  • A short summary, saying what the book is about
  • Your opinion on the book and reasons why
  • Who would like this book and why
  • Your favourite part of the book.
  • Pictures to decorate

Make your book reviews neat and colourful – this will make other children want to read them!

I can’t wait to see them!

  2. 50 Ways to be Happy
by Vanessa King, Peter Harper and Val Payne
This book is a non-fiction book and it tells you ways to be happy. One idea is that doing things for other people will make you happy. You could have a ceremony in your living room where you hand out certificates to family members who have been kind to others.
This book has some interesting ideas in it, but I would rather read fact books about the world, or fiction stories with jokes in them.
Maybe people who are sad might like this book because it could help them to be happier (You love it too, Miss!).
My favourite part was Make Today a Kindness Day, which gave ideas for things you could do to help around the house.

  17. Dear Miss Carruthers,
Book review: 50 Ways to be Happy by Vanessa King, Peter Harper and Val Payne.
This is a non fiction book ? which is about ways to be happy. Scientists ?‍? found different activities to make your life happier. For example, they discovered that when you do a kind deed for someone not only you make them feel happy ? but you also feel happy yourself. This book may be useful for people but I prefer something more exciting to read. My Grandpa ? would like this book because he misses us at the moment. The many ways of being kind challenged was fun though.

  18. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Marie, you have clearly thought through this carefully πŸ™‚ I hope the book has given you ideas of kind things you could do for your Grandpa. Thank you for your honesty and opinions about the books you prefer to read.

  19. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Rebecca. Contents pages are really helpful in non-fiction books because they help us to know exactly where to look for the information we need πŸ™‚

  20. Miss Carruthers says:

Great work John! I agree, sometimes it is good to see an example so that you have a good idea of where to start. Hopefully it gave you lots of ideas of how to be kind πŸ™‚

  21. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Marisa! I don’t think the book was forcing you to be kind, but it is always nice to treat people kindly πŸ™‚ Hopefully it gave you some ideas anyway!

  22. Miss Carruthers says:

What lovely work Joshua! I love how you chose to present your poster in a slightly different way, with the little sections of paper and decorations around it. Hope your brain isn’t spinning too much πŸ™‚

  23. The title is this book is called ways to be happy and the author of the book is Vanessa King, Peter Harper and Van Payne.
This book is a non-fiction book telling you how to be happy, how to be kind to there to make them happy and there are lots of activities to do too to be kind, happy and giving.
I think this book is good because it helps people to be happy if they are felling sad and teach people to be kind so we can all play nicely together and won’t feel sad.
I recommend this book to everyone that is feeling sad so that they can feel happy like me.
My favourite party of the book is page 10 because it hats lots of fun activities to do.
