This website helps to learn how to spelling these words and has some games you can practise.

If you can, ask your sibling or parent to test you on the above words!

If you want some more ideas of how to practise your spellings you could:

Use the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check method to learn your spellings.

  • Look at the word carefully
  • Say it out loud
  • Cover it with a piece of paper or your hand
  • Write the spelling again next to the word
  • Uncover the spelling to Check if you have got it right

When you are writing these words in your home learning book, try to use neat handwriting. Most of us have been typing on the blog but it is important to make sure we practise our handwriting too!

Please then type your sentences in the blog comment section.

Extension: Can you write a paragraph using more than two of these words in order to practise your skill further? Let’s see who can include the most spelling words in their paragraph!  Plan your sentence first in your Home Learning Book to ensure that it makes sense before publishing it on the blog!

If you are looking for a challenge, you could visit the Shakespeare Project here. Thank you to Theo for sharing that he has already used it!

    EXTENSION:

  3. Good Morning Mrs Avdiu and Miss Robertson I have chosen to use the words interrupt and mischievous for my sentences.

A man kept interrupting my conversation whilst I was trying to talk to my friend.

My friend was very mischievous and always got into trouble.

    Challenge:

That weird looking individual kept interrupting our leisure activity on that marvelous afternoon. I could not stand him, he kept interfering. Using a very polite and gentle language I tried to put a stop to his mischievous behavior. Unfortunately that did not work so I felt it was necessary to teach him a lesson and as quick as lightning I poked him with a pencil in his arm muscle.

  7. Hi everyone,

I enjoyed this task and hope that my paragraph is okay.

It was a silent day on the orchard, the marvellous apples were being picked off the great trees today. Two boys who were having a leisurely walk were spotted walking towards the orchard. Once the boys got closer it seemed like one had strained a muscle. The people working to pick the apples stopped and came over to assist the child. By the language the boys used it was sure they weren’t part of the wealthy families that lived around here. Soon the workers realised that they were talking to a individual boy. Like lightning the two boys rushed past the workers and back to where they came from. The boys weren’t being mischievous; they had to steal to survive, food is necessary.

  8. I am glad you enjoyed it Honeko. Thank you! Thank you for your wonderful paragraph. Please check ‘a individual boy’. Should it be ‘an’?

“Yes, I suppose that’s right, but still I’d like to lead a life of leisure even if that means that we have to be mischievous,” interrupted Jenny. The two argued for a while until a flash of lightning filled the sky and thunder could be heard in the distance. They rushed from where they were sitting on the rooftop into the house below and sat down at the table for a mug of hot chocolate while the rain stopped.

  10. Wow Zavan. That sounds like a passage from a real book. Well done!

  41. Hello everyone ?
This is my paragraph with today’s spelling words.

It was a beautiful sunny ☀️ morning when I decided to discover what was behind the big gates of my garden. As I opened the gate a marvellous meadow filled the open space. I stepped into a blanket of colourful flowers ?, and their sent overwhelmed me. There is just no language to describe how I felt at that moment. Butterflies and other insects were exploring the meadow at their leisure. I stood still, muscles tense as I didn’t want to interrupt their peaceful surrounding. Suddenly I heard my brother shouting with a mischievous look on his face. I guess my magical daydreaming was over.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
    Maia?

  42. Mrs Avdiu says:

Hi Maia. I really felt like I was there reading this peaceful description of the marvellous meadow. I particularly liked the use of figurative language such as ‘blanket of colourful flowers’. Well done! Please could you check your spelling for ‘sent’?

  43. Hi everyone here is what I done for the English task today.

Interrupt: means that you are speaking over someone’s conversation.

Leisure: means use of free time for enjoyment.

My baby brother is the most mischievous in my family.

My baby brother and my little sister are scared of lightning.

    Challenge:

My little brother was very mischievous at the park. When we came home I kept interrupting my mum and dad to ask them if can I have a snack.

  44. Mrs Avdiu says:

Thank you Dylan for your efforts on the challenge! Could you revise your sentence about the lightning? You suggest that you left because it was terrifying but then referred to it as ‘marvellous’. This can be quite confusing for the reader 🙂

  45. Hi Everyone.

Mischievous=Mischievous is when somebody is naughty and it’s funny at the same time.
Language=A language is something that people talk and sometimes other people can understand that language.

The very rude person who was standing under a gloomy, dark tree was about to be struck by a glowing, shrieking piece of lightning.

A marvellous person just entered the room ,people dropped everything and ran just to grab a view.
    EXTENSION:
As fast as lightning, she cautiously turned around but soon her leisure ended, across the street an individual spying on her, giving her the stink eye. Slowly, the spy turned around and ran down the street, mischievous person’s black shoes clicking away. It was necessary for her to follow this ,so rudely had interrupted her.

  46. Mrs Avdiu says:

Hi Sara. Thank you for your efforts on the challenge. Please can you proofread it as the punctuation needs checking. I would also recommend reading out loud as the last few sentences especially are quite confusing and do not make sense as sentences? Thank you Sara. Take care! 🙂

  47. Hello everyone!?

Lucy was a marvellous but very mischievous girl. In the mornings, when the sun fills the flower beds with golden light, She liked to watch the bugs leisurely explore the blanket of colours. Only if there was a language that could understand what the bugs were saying, thought Lucy now and then. She normally wanted to stay up all evening listening to the sounds of thunder and lightning when the weather was bad. Sometimes she just wanted to cause mayhem by interfering with some other child’s business, but that would interrupt the peace in the boarding-school. It was necessary that every individual child must participate in some type sport to help their muscles grow strong.

  52. Ms Robertson says:

    Hello Yr 5!
I hope you’ve all had a good week.
Today I’m going to have a go at the spelling – extension challenge – and see how many spelling words (in order) I can fit into a paragraph, here goes….
I consider myself to be a polite individual, I don’t like to interrupt people during their valuable leisure time – I don’t think that’s fair. I must tell you – yesterday I had a marvellous day, although I did manage to pull a muscle whilst cycling on my bike to the bakery, I did hope that my strain wouldn’t interfere and impact too much on my day. The lady in the bakery was talking in a foreign language that I couldn’t understand however, I did manage to get some bread and cup-cakes. As I exited the shop, a car drove passed me at lightning speed, nearly knocking me off my feet! I feel I must also share with you that recently I have been rather mischievous – I’ve been eating far too many cup-cakes, and feel it necessary to go on a diet.
    ???????

  53. Ms Robertson, I’m very impressed! Gold star for you!
Don’t worry too much about the cupcakes 🙂

  54. Ms Robertson says:

    ⭐ Thank you Mrs Avdiu!
