Good Morning, Nursery.

Well done for hearing and saying the ‘o’ sound yesterday.

We are focussing on the sound ‘u’

Today’s Phonics task:  Practice making the ‘u’ action and saying, ‘u u u u.’

Go on a hunt in your house for things that begin with an ‘u’ sound.  Practice saying them like this u u u umbrella.

Can you hear and say the beginning sound of the objects that you have found?

Practice writing the letter u’ in the air and on the table with your finger.  You can also write the letter on your laminated card using a whiteboard pen or on paper using pen, crayons, paint or pencil.

I can’t wait to hear about all of the things that you found in your house that begin with the u sound.

Reception Class have been telling me how much they love Geraldine the Giraffe. Here she is learning the ‘u’ sound too:   https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kmmewEew6lM

PRINTABLE VERSION:N Phonics Wednesday

It would really help me if you could upload photos  straight to the media file (instructions are here: sharing photos and files) as they get to me more quickly and easily as they don’t have to go via the office and my e-mail. Please can either your child’s name or face (but not both) be visible on any photos. Many thanks.

    Good morning Miss Siswick,

Nicolas found the following words with u:

Umbrella, under, up, uncle, underground, underwear. Is it correct that unicorn does not fall into this group as it sounds different?

    Greetings from Nicolas

  2. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Nicolas. You found lots of u words.
The beginning sound in unicorn is y even though the beginning letter is u.

  6. Hello, when I send the picture from my phone the text does not come through. We found the same words too (up, under, uncle, umbrella) and as with unicorn we wondered about the word uniform. We think it probably does not fit the U sound.

  7. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Grace. That’s right. Unicorn begins with the letter u but sounds like y.
Unfortunately, the messages with the photo don’t link to the blogs so you have to comment separately-sorry.
