Good Morning, Nursery.

I hope that you are still enjoying your ‘Traditional Tales’ corners that you made on Tuesday.

Today, we are going to learn about a range of traditional tales and nursery rhyme characters.

Listen to me reading,  ‘Each Peach, Pear, Plum’ by Janet and Allan Ahlberg or read it yourself if you have the book.

Which characters did you hear about or see in the Story?

Can you find…

Old   Mother Hubbard?        Baby Bunting?    Robin Hood?       Tom Thumb?     Cinderella?        Little Bo Peep?      Cinderella?     Jack and Jill?     The Wicked Witch?

Do you know which stories and rhymes the characters come from?

If you do, maybe you could tell them or read them with a grown up.

If you don’t, maybe you and a grown up could look in some books or on the internet to find out about them.

I am looking forward to hearing all about the characters that you found today.

Love from Miss Siswick.

  1. Dear Miss Siswick, Hermine had never read this book and loved it. She also realised that out of all the characters mentioned in the book, she was only familiar with the story of Cinderella, The Three Bears, the Wicked Witch and Jack & Jill. We have therefore decided to discover new characters and have started reading Tom Thumb. Robin Hood and Mother Hubbard are for later today.

  2. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Hermine. I love this book too. It has so many characters. I am glad that you found some new stories and rhymes to read.

  3. Dear Miss Siswick, we found all the characters mentioned on the last page of the story. Nicolas is familiar with the stories of The Three Bears, Cinderella and Robin Hood. We read the rhymes of Mother Hubbard, Jack and Jill, Bo-Peep, and looked up what the Wicked Witch (did not know it is the one from the Wizard of Oz), Baby Bunting and Tom Thumb is about. Very interesting (Sophia enjoyed the research the most ?). Greetings from us all!

  4. Thank you Miss Siswick ?
Ania listens very carefully to this book because she liked it very much.
She recognise: Robin Hood  ,Cinderella,   Jack and Jill,  The Wicked Witch,Three Brears.
We have never read a book:
Old   Mother Hubbard and Baby Bunting.
My sister promised me that she would read them for goodnight.

  5. Grace knew The Three Bears, Little Bo-Peep, Jack & Jill, the Wicked Witch (Snow White) but she does not know Robin Hood and Tom Thumb. We will show her online later.
We have a great book – “Not Last Night But The Night Before” by Colin McNaughton. There are many traditional fairy tale characters in this story; The Man on the Moon, Goldilocks (3Bears), Little Miss Muffet, Three Blind Mice and Punch & Judy. Grace likes the big, fat spider the most in this book!

  6. Good morning Miss Siswick,

  9. Thank you Miss Siswick for the fantastic book! I really loved it! My favourtie character is little bo peep because she looks after all the sheep and baby lambs. I didn’t like the wicked witch, but at the end she was with everyone being good and I liked her.

  10. Miss Siswick says:

Well done; Nicolas, Ania, Gabriel, Grace, Caspian and Fiadh. I am glad that you enjoyed the book and that it is a new book for many of you.
It is in the book corner ready for you when we all go back to school.

  11. Nancy Bear says:

Philip found the three bears and we acted out the story using some very appropriate voices. Not sure what Dad’s work colleagues thought Of the background noise?!

  12. Miss Siswick says:

I am pleased that the three Bears had so much fun being the three bears!
