This week, we took part in Art Week, which focused on the theme of God’s Creations.
Our artwork was inspired by the things we love most about the world around us. We explored ideas linked to nature, animals, hobbies, families and personal interests to help inspire our final pieces. At the centre of our artwork will be the world itself, with several of us collaborating to create this important part of the design. Eventually, all of our individual pieces will come together to form one large Year 5 class masterpiece ready for the auction in June.
To prepare, we first sketched out our ideas and practised using watercolours on the same sized paper we would use for our final piece. In our sketchbooks, we experimented with a range of watercolour techniques so that we could create truly auction-worthy artwork! This helped us to develop our understanding of blending colours, especially when creating backgrounds such as sunsets and sunrises.
We also practised painting different subjects, including blossom trees and sea turtles, which helped us to feel more confident and prepared before beginning our final artwork.
On Wednesday, it was finally time to complete our designs and consolidate everything we had learned about using watercolours. There was such a beautiful variety of artwork across the class, including stunning sunsets, waterfalls, volcanoes, butterflies and thoughtful pieces inspired by family.
Thank you to Miss McCarry for her work on organising Art Week and also to Miss Robertson for her support with our artwork, and organising our resources.
We are so excited to see all of our artwork come together as one collaborative Year 5 piece, and we cannot wait to share it at the auction in June!
What part of God’s creation inspired your artwork the most, and why?
I love everything about nature. What inspired me is my family in Goa, India. The beaches of Goa in India are the best. I’ve enjoyed sunsets and swam in the sea many times. I tried my best to capture this in my drawing.
I loved doing this artwork! It was fun to paint a part of the earth, especially since I love nature! Next time I do this, I might paint a ladybug! Thank you!
I LOVED taking part in this even though I struggled in the middle! I drew butterflies on flowers, which represents nature and animals. Thanks to everyone for organising and helping us with this activity.
Art week was so fun! I really loved it and I enjoyed doing the paintings themed by gods creations. Mine was inspired by the lovely sunsets in Tuscany that I enjoyed with my family.
I love nature and I also like to draw it.I often go to France to see my grandparents and landscapes there can be amazing.I see sunsets at the beach quite often so this inspired me to paint them but in my artwork, I drew a windmill in a field with flowers and a sun.
