Today, Reception had a very exciting start to our new ‘Jungles’ topic with a special visit from Sarah at Zoo Lab!
Sarah brought along a lots of real life jungle animals for us to meet, including a giant African land snail, a Madagascan hissing cockroach, a millipede, a constrictor snake, a tarantula and a tree frog. We loved learning fascinating facts about each animal, such as which layer of the rainforest they live in, what they like to eat and how they are cared for.
The children listened beautifully and asked lots of thoughtful questions, showing great curiosity and enthusiasm. We were amazed to discover how different the animals were and how each one has adapted to survive in its habitat.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the opportunity to hold some of the animals. Many of the children showed incredible bravery as they carefully handled them and learned how to keep both themselves and the animals safe. Some of us (including Mr Kersys!) felt a little nervous at first, but as the session went on our confidence grew. By the end of the workshop, everyone had challenged themselves and held at least one of the animals!
It was a fantastic hands on learning experience that helped bring our new topic to life. We are looking forward to discovering even more about jungles, rainforests and the amazing creatures that live there over the coming weeks. Well done Reception! I am so proud of how well you behaved.
A big thank you to Sarah from Zoo Lab for our amazing workshop!
