Today in assembly, School Council reminded us of our learning powers.

If you do lots of exercise, your muscles will get much stronger! It’s the same with your brain. The more you practise using your brain and the more you try to use your learning powers, the stronger they will become. We know that there are 4 very important learning powers and we need to work hard to improve them. The best way to improve them, is to use them! This builds them up and helps our brain become stronger.

I am Resourceful! When I am faced with a tough situation, I use my imagination and ask lots of questions. I use the resources that I have already got to find the solutions to problems.

I am Reciprocity! That means that I am all about relationships. I listen carefully to others and I learn from them. I work well in a team and help others so that we achieve our goal together!

I am Resilient! I persevere, which means that I don’t give up. Life is not always easy and we often face problems and challenges. But when things are difficult and even when I fail, I just get back up again, keep on trying and this makes me stronger!  I know that sometimes learning is tough and that I will need to work hard to be successful. So I ignore distractions and I never, ever give up!

I am Reflective! I think carefully about what I have learnt. I always plan ahead and think about what to do next. If things go wrong, I don’t panic- I reflect on it and then think about how I can learn from my mistakes and do better next time!

This term, the whole school is focussing on building their reciprocal learning power. When you are being a reciprocal learner, you know when to work by yourself and when to work with others. You work well with others, and understand that you have to listen carefully to other’s ideas to understand them better as well as sharing your own ideas.  You think about how other people might feel. You are ready to learn from others and help others learn.

So remember- there is no such thing as someone who cannot learn. Never think that you are not smart and that you are not a good learner. Everyone can Build their Learning Powers. If you have a Growth Mindset, you can train your brain to become a better learner!

How have you been a reciprocal learner this week?

I am trying to be a good reciprocal (taking turns) learner by listening extra carefully at home and at school so that I understand what is going on around me …..and because I know I like it when grown ups and friends listen carefully to me. I really, really liked the catchy Bruno Mars song at the end of the assembly today. You can count on me like 1,2,3 ….and I’ll be there. I’ve even been singing it in the shower!

Thank you to Miss Carruthers for organising this amazing play about learning powers. I really enjoyed playing my role.
I think I learned a lot from this assembly. I will try my best to use these learning powers in school and at home.
