In this week’s Music lesson with Mr Hylton, Year 3 continued their work on the recorder. We began by recapping the notes we already knew: B, A and G.

When we had mastered these notes, Mr Hylton introduced two new notes to us: C and G. It was simple to form C and G now that we already know B, A and G. C is formed by taking off the first finger from A and G by covering the first 3 holes up on the front and the one on the back!

This is us practicing playing C!

The class then learnt a new song-‘Juba’

Juba this and Juba that

Juba chased a yellow cat

Juba up and Juba down

Juba running all around!

This song is composed of the notes:

BBCCBBA x3

CCBBAAG

Everyone had a go at playing the song together and picked it up very, very quickly!

Thank you Mr Hylton for such a wonderful lesson and well done Year 3, it sounded brilliantly! I am excited to hear you play during the Christmas Celebration Service in church next month!

What was your favourite part of learning to play Juba?
