Every morning in Nursery we follow the same routine to help us have a positive start to the day!

Firstly we sing our morning song, which goes like this:

“Hello, hello, it’s nice to see you

Hello, hello, it’s nice to see you

I must say, you made my day

Hello, hello hello”

Next we make the sign of the cross and then sing our morning prayer, which is as follows:

“Good morning God, we praise your holy name. We thank you for giving us this lovely new day”

After that we find out what we are doing today by looking at our visual timetable! We talk about what day of the week it is and then we see what we have on in the morning!

Next up is Phonics, which nursery only started doing last week! On different days we do different short targeted activities. For example on Thursday this week we looked at the sound /n/ and we played a game of ‘What’s in the Box?!’. In this game we look at images that all start with the same sound (which on Thursday was /n/). We looked at pictures of a neck, nose and numbers. We practised saying the /n/ sound and we looked at how all of those words start with that sound.  Today we firstly reviewed all the sounds that we have learnt this week and then we played a game of ‘Play with Sounds’. For this game Miss Pycroft chose a name from the class and an object and joined those together to make a silly sentence (for example “Interesting Isabel’s insect”). We then played a game of ‘Name Play’ which is where we look at everyone’s name and see if we can say it out loud to find out what sound that name starts with!

So far in phonics in Nursery we have looked at the sound /s/, /a/, /t/, /p/, /i/ and /n/. We will be focusing on these same sounds for the whole term to make sure we know them really well!

After we have finished phonics, it is time to get on with the rest of our day!
