We have been learning about Islam in our Religious Education lessons.  We started off our learning by revisiting the British Values and discussed which values we are developing when we learn about other faiths and agreed that these were: Tolerance for other faiths and cultures, mutual respect  and individual liberty.

Next, we impressed Miss Siswick by the amount we remembered about Islam from our learning in previous years and also came up with some questions that we would like to have answered about Islam. Then our resident expert showed us a prayer mat and a hijab that she had brought from home and answered some of our questions about being a Muslim.

This year, the focus of our learning was the five pillars of Islam (Shahada, Salah, Zakat, Sawm and Hajj) which are the five most important aspects that support a Muslim’s life and worship. We chose how to present our learning in our books to show what we had understood.

Finally, today it was our turn to visit the London Central Mosque and learn more from Mr Mezzi. Mr Mezzi was very impressed with our knowledge of the pillars of Islam and was also able to answer many of our questions. We were shown an exhibition that gave so much information and history about Islam and also had the opportunity to enter the part of the Mosque where Muslims go to worship.

Many thanks to everyone at the London Central Mosque for making us so welcome and teaching us so much and many thanks to all of the parents who accompanied us today. We really appreciate your support.

  5. Some of the others M..M..Ms I remember are Medina which is where all Muslims try to visit once in their life and is where Mohammed and his mother found a well because they were very thirsty and where they established Islam.
