What a fabulous St Vincent’s Book Day we had today! It was amazing to see all of the creative and interesting characters the children chose to be. Well done to everyone for the big effort that went into the costumes- the kids loved it.

We started our day with an introduction to the Book Day, and we got to parade around the hall and see the whole school’s costumes. It was so much fun trying to guess everyone’s costumes and the books they related to.

Year 1 then got a taste of Year 2 and got  to visit Miss Forster Adams for a lesson on Somebody Swallowed Stanley. The students read the story and answered some comprehension questions, and then later in the day, back in Year 1, we read the Snail and the Whale and did a character description on both of the main characters.

We were also lucky enough to have a visit from a story teller from a performing arts agency. Year 1 read the story of The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch and then played different games about the story such as the lighthouse keeper’s shopping list, making a silly sandwich and protecting his lunch!

Finally it was a very nice end of the day to have so many parents come and visit to read with us. I enjoyed reading with lots of the children as well.

It was so lovely to work with you today, Year 1! You all blew me away with your great listening skills and how hard you worked too. I hope that you enjoyed Somebody Swallowed Stanley – it’s one of my favourites. Well done to all of you!
