In Year 2, we have started our new Religious Education topic of Signs and Symbols in Baptism. We begun our new topic by discussing signs and symbols that we see in every day life, from road signs that give us information, telling us the way to go, to our school logo which lots of us said was a symbol of family, love and friendship. We discussed the way in which symbols often represent something important. We thought about the crucifix and the fact that this is a symbol and a reminded us of Jesus, his sacrifice and resurrection.

In the next lesson, we spoke about Baptism and shared what we could remember from Year 1. We impressed our teacher with the knowledge and understanding that we had! We knew that Baptism is an invitation to belong to God’s family, and we could remember some of the steps involved with the ceremony of Baptism. We then watched a short video about the way in which families are welcomed into the church, and the promises that the parents and Godparents make.

To familiarise ourselves with this a little more, we worked in our table groups to create freeze-frames of the Baptism ceremony, up to the anointment of the oil of the catechumens. We discussed the best way to represent these important moments, from making the sign of the cross to the readings from the Gospel.

Well done for a fantastic week, Year 2. I am so proud of all that you are achieving!
