  1. Hello everyone,
    Here is my English paragraph:
Our natural ENVIRONMENT gives EXCELLENT food and shelter to wildlife but over the years global warming has had a DISASTROUS effect, ESPECIALLY for animals. The EXISTENCE of some species is threatened by our actions. To make a change we must EQUIP people with the facts, giving a clear EXPLANATION of the consequences and not EXAGGERATE the truth. (I am EMBARRASSED to admit that I had to look up most of these words in the DICTIONARY!)
    See you soon,
    Regan

  2. Miss Carruthers says:

Excellent paragraph Regan. I’m impressed you managed to use all the words to create a paragraph on a topic that is so important and gave us all such a clear message 🙂

  3. Claudia‍ says:

Hello everyone I hope you are all ok and having a nice day. I practiced my spellings three times and only got one wrong:

    Challenge:

My house was a disastrous environment, the guest were waiting cautiously. I went to get my dictionary but then tripped over a pile of books. I felt embarrassed but carried on. I went to the doctor because my leg started to feel sore, then when they called my name the doctor said “I had a sprained ankle. He said “wait there a second whilst I go grab my equipment.” When he came back he was equip with bandages and some shots. Whilst he was wrapping my ankle he asked what happened so I had to give an explanation, I told him everything. Dr. Max said that must have been painful especially when I tripped on my ankle over books. Two weeks later I had a check up on my leg so I went. When I saw Dr. Max he said my leg had heeled excellently. He took the cast off and I went home to tidy.

    (⌐■_■)

  4. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Claudia – I think you do need to tidy if you hurt yourself tripping over books!! 🙂
Check your first sentence, it should be either the guest was waiting or the guests were waiting.

  5. *+…Elsa…+* says:

Good morning everyone, I hope that you are all well. Here is my paragraph for the extension:

Jamie woke up, hoping that today would be better than yesterday. He went downstairs and looked at his Mother, hoping she would know of his EXISTENCE . She said nothing and then Jamie ran out the house and out to the park. He sat alone in the park for hours, hoping that the day would be over soon. He looked at his watch and saw that it was 11:30 on a Tuesday. He had school, he need an EXCELLENT EXPLANATION for his teacher. He ran into school and saw his class learning about the ENVIRONMENT, which was his favourite topic. He didn’t know what to say, his teacher and him went outside and he just stood there, feeling EMBARRASSED and turning bright red. He managed to not get in trouble and when the end of the day came, he didn’t go straight home, he ran to his favourite park again and just started to think about him Mother. Later on, his friends arrived at the park and he started to EXAGGERATE about why he hasn’t been himself lately. He went home and there was nobody there, so he skipped dinner and went to go do his homework, unfortunately he didn’t have a DICTIONARY to help him and he had forgotten to get his equipment so went to sleep…

  6. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Elsa, you’ve managed to tell a little story using the words well! 🙂

  7. Good Morning Everyone!
Here is my paragraph for today’s English work

The things that are happening to the ENVIRONMENT are DISASTROUS, ESPECIALLY because of how many protests there are demanding change. We must give people an EXPLANATION about what is happening so that they are EQUIPPED and know why it is so important to stop climate change. In the North and South Pole, ice -bergs are melting and the EXISTENCE of animals like Polar Bears and seals are being threatened. It is EXCELLENT that people are understanding more and recognise that we are not EXAGGERATING the risks to our planet.( Some of these words are not in the children’s DICTIONARY and I think that the people that made the dictionary should be EMBARRASSED because these words are on the year five and six spelling list.)

  8. Miss Carruthers says:

A brilliant paragraph Theo! You’re final sentence made me laugh!! 🙂

  9. Hello everybody, this is what I’ve done for today’s English assessment!

A dictionary has an excellent explanation for telling us what a word is and its explanation. Its existence is especially important for people who can’t spell a word or don’t know the meaning of it. However, the book is not good for the environment because of all the paper it needs and the recycling process it has to go through. If you are in an english lesson, you should always be equipped with a dictionary just in case. Sometimes I feel quite embarrassed that I need to look for the spelling or meaning of simple words. What does the word disastrous mean in the dictionary? The word disastrous means: awful and dreadful, it is also an adjective. Example: a disastrous fire swept through the museum! Tommy was exaggerating this event.

  10. Miss Carruthers says:

Wonderful work Ava! Well done for using so many of the words in this explanation! Check your use of its. Sometime it should be it’s which is a contraction of it is. Have a read through and see if you can spot it!

  11. Hello everyone,
Here is my short paragraph.I hope that you all enjoy it!?
I have been chosen to give a speech about the impact we have on the ENVIRONMENT infront of my class today and here it goes…

“Hello everyone, today I will give an EXCELLENT EXPLANATION about out topic, “The ENVIRONMENT” and I am also going to try to use the correct spelling without a DICTIONARY.I do not mean to EXAGGERATE but our earth is not being treated with care, leaving DISASTROUS results, ESPECIALLY for animals. We humans are tearing down their habitats which is threatening their EXISTENCE. We have all become EQUIPPED to polluting the earth and we should all be very EMBARRASSED.”

  12. Miss Carruthers says:

Brilliant Erin! Well done for using so many of this week’s spelling words 🙂

  13. Gabriella says:

Hi Miss Carruthers?! I hope you are well?! Here is my paragraph for today(:

Yesterday I went to buy a DICTIONARY but they were all sold out, I told the man that it was DISASTROUS and he should have an EXCELLENT EXPLANATION. As the man did have an EXCELLENT EXPLANATION I went home immediately ESPECIALLY because I EMBARRASS myself a lot.

  14. Miss Carruthers says:

You should never be embarrassed for buying a dictionary!! 🙂 Well done Gabriella!
I hope you and your family are well too!

  15. Hi Everyone,

For the writing test, the children were told to equip a piece of paper, a pen and especially a dictionary. They were supposed to write a fiction story about a real disastrous event that has happened in the past and it had to be a natural disaster. One of the only way’s for them to exceed on the test was to exaggerate.

By the end of the test, Phil was the only person in the class who had done an excellent job because he even had an explanation of how the volcano that he wrote about had erupted. Another boy, Henry, felt quite embarrassed as he got the lowest score in the class. Phil usually always liked to work in a clean environment in the class. Although Phil loved working, he still couldn’t live without his phone and imagined what the world would be like without the existence of technology.

This was my short story, I hope you liked it!

  16. Miss Carruthers says:

A wonderful short story Marco! Check your first sentence:
…to equip themselves with a piece of paper…
Does especially work well here? Or could it go somewhere else?

  17. Good Morning Everyone 🙂
    Here is my paragraph:

As I woke up I grabbed my DICTIONARY and headed down stairs. I had an EXCELLENT breakfast, okay, I did EXAGGERATE, I only had a protein bar but it was still very yummy.
I went outside but the ENVIRONMENT wasn´t very lovely,
ESPECIALLY the one coming from the farm house. I wanted an EXPLANATION so…I went and asked my dad but he was busy doing work so I said to myself that I would ask him at dinner.
    In the afternoon ….
I wanted to do some exercise so I went to get my EQUIPMENT. I went to the living room but then I heard a DISASTROUS noise it was coming from the kitchen. Then I found out that it was my brother………..

I hope you enjoyed my paragraph!!

    See you all soon !!!

  18. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Elena! What was your brother doing that was making such a disastrous noise?!

  19. Hello everyone!☀️

The worlds environment is disastrous, it can and it will affect our existence. Some people like David Attenborough and especially Greta Thunberg are doing an excellent job to keep us safe! I don’t want to exaggerate but if we carry on like this our world will end.
    ~Iggy

  24. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Iggy 🙂 An important message as well!

  25. Sebastiao : D says:

    Hi everyone,

I practiced the spelling words with Iggy using Skype and I have done the challenge:

In the dictionary, I searched up the word exaggerate and I got an excellent explanation for it! The next day I forgot to equip my dictionary which was disastrous. At school I didn’t have my dictionary and I got very embarrassed!!

    EXAMPLE:

    //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    EXTENSION…
The second that I came home, I ran to my house and grabbed my dictionary. I especially need to know how to pronounce the word ‘Anathema’. Ok, maybe I did over exaggerate but need to learn to sound smart. After that, I decided to go to my living room to watch some television. As soon as I sat down on my warm couch, I heard a disastrous sound. There was a broken glass on the floor and I needed the right equipment to pick it up. As I finished picking up the last piece of glass , I looked outside my window and I was not surprised when the environment was horrible- but I did want to go outside and get soaked just a bit! I ran outside and fell face first in the mud. I showed a face of embarrassment before I quickly ran inside so that nobody could see me. Then, I saw my mum and she said the exact thing that I was not hoping for…
‘Nika, I need and explanation for this. I mean come on, excellent job! I washed that today! When was the existence of this behavior welcomed into this house?’
    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I HOPE THAT YOU ENJOYED MY PARAGRAPH!
If there is any grammar or spelling mistakes in my sentences, examples or in the paragraph please let me know.

  28. Miss Carruthers says:

    CHALLENGE:

    This is my paragraph:

I was embarrassed because I didn’t know what excellent meant. My teacher told me to search in the dictionary. I found out the explanation which is an exaggeration of good and the opposite of disastrous.

  30. Miss Carruthers says:

    Hello Violette! 🙂
Well done for finding some definitions and putting your words into a paragraph!

  31. Hi everyone.
    CHALLENGE:
The beautiful tiger was pouncing onto the coconut tree, and shouted…
“Let’s not EXAGGERATE about how EXCELLENT I am!”
It’s tree had been destroyed and so had the rest of the ENVIRONMENT. At that moment, a dictionary fell out of of his tree and so did some EQUIPMENT he was embarrassed. He could feel his cheeks burning pink and red ESPEICALLY, he tried to come up with a EXPLANATION but was not EXCISTENT.

  32. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Sara, I love your story 🙂 Check your spelling words though, you’ve spelt two wrong, see if you can spot them!

  33. Hello everyone, here is my paragraph for today’s English task.

“Today we will be learning about climate change, and everyone should EQUIP themselves with a DICTIONARY, a pencil, and a copy of the KS2 climate change for kids,” the teacher told her class, as Dave gave an EXCELLENT EXPLANATION as to why the EXISTENCE of methane, ESPECIALLY, has a DISASTROUS affect on the ENVIRONMENT, to Lily. Unexpectedly, he heard the teacher’s voice calling him up to the front of the class and immediately came, not wanting to EMBARRASS himself, or other kids to EXAGGERATE how dull he looked later.

See you on the next zoom call (^‿^)

  34. Miss Carruthers says:

Brilliant work Zavan, well done for including so many of the words 🙂

  35. Mathilde :) says:

    Hello everyone

Embarrass means to be self conscious
    Excellent means great

When I, my sister and my brother came home from school, we walked into the kitchen to get a snack. While we were eating, my little sister said in a quiet voice, “where is mom and dad “ I just remembered, our mom and dad had to go on a work trip that means we had the house to ourselves! “They are doing a work trip” I said happily “yay” everyone said but that happiness didn’t last for long, everyone was so bored. Then my brother had an idea “who wants to play hide and seek”? My brother said “ I can count “ I said “1 2 3 4 …
Ready or not here I come” I checked every nook and cranny I new but they weren’t anywhere except I didn’t check our parent closet!
As I ran upstairs I had a feeling that something wasn’t right especially upstairs. When I got upstairs everything was silent first before checking the closet I quickly checked under my parents bed “ found you “! What?… oh they weren’t there, why did embarrass myself they probably heard me. Well I expected to see at least one of them hiding under the bed my parents closet wasn’t that big! when I checked the closet there was lots of clothes so I had to push through to find them. It didn’t seem like the closet would ever end and it didn’t. I found myself in the middle of the woods I also saw my sister and brother who were has surprised as me! I also saw dinosaurs can you believe that!? “I thought dinosaurs didn’t have existence in this world because of the environment ” said my brother “me too” I needed an explanation and quick! When we calmed down, we had lots and lots of fun, we even got to know some of the dinosaurs! When we got back home we couldn’t stop smiling, then our parents came home and said “ hello what did you do when we were away “ we said “we play with our dinosaur toys” while laughing!
    The End

I hope everyone has a great day ??????☺️

  36. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Mathilde! Have another read through and just focus on the punctuation, as you’re missing a few different bits, especially around your speech. 🙂

  37. .+*Ayako*+. says:

Hello everyone. I hope you are all well. This is my extension:

Climate change is disastrous for the environment, especially in coastal regions that experience rising sea levels. Entire islands are expected to disappear. This man-made crisis threatens the existence of our planet.

  38. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done for using so many of the words in only a few sentences 🙂

  39. ✨Renee✨ says:

    Hello everyone!
Here is my paragraph for the challenge.

Today our teacher taught us about the environment and the disastrous effect it would cost on animals and humans if we don’t look after it. First the teacher asked us to equip ourselves a dictionary and look up the word environment. The excellent explanation the dictionary gave us was that environment means the surroundings of where humans and animals live. One person tried to answer the question, but it turned out that they misheard the word for encouragement. They felt quite embarrassed when they found out they heard the word wrong and everyone laughed a lot until the teacher told us to stop over exaggerating and get on with work. I was on the part where we were talking about animals especially being affected with this because we are ruining their existence by air pollution, plastic waste and other terrible things.

I hope you enjoyed reading my paragraph! Have a lovely rest of the day! ? (Sorry for the late reply ?)

  40. Miss Carruthers says:

Thanks Renee! I hope you had a good day too 🙂 Well done for using so many of the spelling words!
